EVERETT, Wash. – Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson signed a slate of housing-related bills Friday during a ceremony at HopeWorks Station in Everett, highlighting both recent legislative progress and the ongoing challenges facing the state’s housing supply.
The package of measures includes Senate Bills 6026, 6027, and 6237, along with House Bills 1345, 2266, 1974, and 2418.
Speaking at the event, Ferguson emphasized the extensive behind-the-scenes work required to move legislation to the governor’s desk. He also underscored the urgency of addressing housing affordability and availability across Washington, noting that more work remains ahead.
Lt. Gov. Denny Heck joined Ferguson at the signing ceremony, which drew participation from local and regional community groups.
The legislation signed on Friday covers a range of housing policies:
Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 2418, sponsored by Rep. Davina Duerr, focuses on permit review processes.
The bills aim to expand housing development, streamline regulatory processes, and increase transparency for renters, as state leaders continue efforts to address Washington’s housing shortage.
Following the bill signings, Ferguson took questions from attendees.“The need for more housing is urgent,” Governor Ferguson said. “We must make it as easy as possible to plan, permit, and build housing to address the crisis. This bill removes barriers to clear the way for more housing all across Washington.”
